Pairing Dinner on the Day of Pairing

Ah Valentine’s Day! It’s a day dedicated to pairing. To celebrate, Mountain Tap Brewery will host its first ever Pairing Dinner on Tuesday, February 14.

The dinner will feature three delectable wood-fired courses – a starter, a main and a dessert – expertly paired with Mountain Tap Brewery’s fresh crafted beers. Between courses, our chef Chereen and brewmaster Rich will discuss flavor nuances of the pairings and provide insight into wood-fired cooking and craft brewing.

Don’t expect candlelight and soft classical music – this dinner is going to be fun! Guests will enjoy each other’s company seated at our renowned community tables in our private dining room.

Choose one selection from each course.

Course 1:

  • Wood fired root vegetable salad, creamy herb dressing, Moonhill Dairy feta OR
  • Full circle pork beer brats, house made red sauerkraut, beer mustard, bread

Paired with choice of Locals’ Lager or Chasing Sunset

Course 2:

  • Cioppino: jumbo shrimp, mussels, bay scallops & sausage, sourdough bread OR
  • Beer brined half cornish game hen, root vegetables, leek risotto w/ Alpenbert

Paired with choice of Livin’ the Steam or Current IPA

Course 3:

  • Apple crisp with vanilla ice cream OR
  • Chocolate cookie, fromage blanc filling, cherry & cacao nib coulis

Paired with choice of Mountain Macaroon or Cliffed Out

Tickets are $50 per person and include the three-course meal, three craft beers, tip and tax. Two seatings are available: at 6 or 8 p.m. Tickets are limited, and advance purchase is required.  Tickets can be purchased at Mountain Tap Brewery or by calling 970-879-6646.

Thankful for Our Beer!

Thanksgiving Dinner? We’ve got you covered – a beer to pair with every item on your table! Come in for a growler fill on Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and we’ll set you up with a free glass of beer while you wait. We suggest you fill a couple… It’s a long day of feasting.

  • Bacon Wrapped Dates Appetizer – Locals Lager or Current IPA. The crisp hoppiness helps cut the yummy fat and reset your palate for that next delicious bite!
  • Turkey & Stuffing – Camp Clean. The beer’s toasted malt and herbaceous hops complement a well caramelized bird – YUM!
  • Mashers and Gravy – Paddlers Porter. The dark roasty beer provides the perfect savory comfort companion.
  • Cranberry Sauce – Passionate Pedal. It’s crisp and citrusy with just the right tang.
  • Roasted Vegetables – Chasing Sunset. Just enough caramel malt and citrusy hop aroma to accentuate the veggies.
  • Sweet Potatoes – Mountain Macaroon. The beer’s caramel maltiness and toasted coconut pair deliciously with earthy sweet potatoes
  • Pecan Pie – Mountain Macaroon. The delicious toasted and caramel malt flavors are a great matchup to the sweet sugary roasted pecans.
  • Pumpkin Pie – Mountain Macaroon or Paddlers’ Porter. Both have rich maltiness and toast/roast which play off the earthy pumpkin.
  • Turducken – Chasing Sunset. It has a light caramel maltiness with just the right amount of hops to keep that duck in line.
  • Cherpumple – Picking Hops. Lots of citrusy hoppiness and caramel malt sweetness work beautifully with the tongue-teaser named dessert.

We’ve got 12 on tap right now, so you really can’t go wrong!

Summit Push!

It’s been a few weeks since the last report. Things have been a wee bit busy as we push for the summit. This last climb has been steep, but we know that the view from the top will be worth it!

We now have every possible permit, license, approval and a few parent permission slips in hand, just to be safe. Our tanks are full of deliciously crafted beer. We’ll be launching with:

  • Passionate Pedal – our passionfruit wheat beer… so quenching!
  • Current IPA – a well-balanced IPA named in honor of the Mighty Yampa River’s current that flows practically through our front yard, as well as the former residents of the brewpub, Yampa Valley Electric Association.
  • Camp Clean – a roasty, toasty, piney brown ale.
  • Picking Hops – a dry-hopped, hops-forward IPA named in honor of our construction crew that got us to where we’re at. (It was fun to have the Picking Crew on hand Picking Hops for this brew.)
  • Mountain Macaroon – a deliciously smooth coconut brown ale.

Tapping up soon after (in the tanks now) will be Locals’ Lager and Night Ride Porter. Our bar is stocked with brand new sparkling glassware just itching to be used. Our kitchen is bursting with fresh ingredients, and our chef and team have been busy perfecting the recipes. We’ve assembled an amazing inaugural staff. Almost time to open!

This week is American Craft Beer Week, and to celebrate, Mountain Tap Brewery received its first shipment of tanks today! On Wednesday, May 18, three fermenters measuring 12 feet tall and weighing 1,200 pounds each, and six serving tanks measuring 7 feet tall and weighing 400 pounds each were carefully unloaded from a shipping container, navigated through the construction zone that is becoming the 910 Yampa pavilion, and found their places safely inside Mountain Tap Brewery. The Picking Construction crew maneuvered the tanks into the brewery using a telescoping forklift, then stood them up tall in the brewhouse. The serving tanks were tightly positioned inside the brewpub’s 252-square-foot walk-in cooler. A second shipment of tanks – the brewing vessels – will arrive a few weeks later.

Mountain Tap Brewery’s brewmaster/ co-founder Rich Tucciarone already has planned his first brews in anticipation of the brewpub’s opening.

“One of the first beers we’ll brew will be Locals’ Lager as a nod to all the residents that make this town tick,” said Tucciarone. “Not many craft breweries are making lagers, and there’s nothing like a crisp, flavorful and refreshing lager after a sunny summer day on the river or trails. We also plan to open with a few hoppy ales, a quenching fruit wheat beer and something roasty and malty to pique every taste bud. As the summer progresses, we’ll ramp up to serving a dozen diverse Mountain Tap beers.”

Good Day Sunshine!

The bar is really taking shape, thanks to Jim and his power tools! The oven is more or less set in place, waiting to be connected to its chimney. We’ve received several pieces of kitchen equipment, with more on the way. Our mechanical guys, plumbers and electricians remain hard at work connecting all the pipes, hoses and wires needed to make the place function. The sun was out several days this week, allowing us to really experience how delightful it’s going to be sitting on the patio, sipping a beer and admiring the views of the Yampa River and Howelsen Hill! Just a few more months…

Fill ‘Er Up!

The space has filled up considerably and is actually starting to look like a brewpub (minus the tanks)! We’ve installed several of the kitchen sinks and the all-important dishwasher, we have the frame built for our 18-foot bar, and we’ve successfully filled the entire center of the space with the walk-in cooler, which will house our finished beer in serving tanks and kegs. HVAC/venting/plumbing/electrical work continues. Outside in front of the brewpub, the ground is all torn up to make way for the plaza. The bar top is looking awesome! Local woodworker Jim Lambert (Lambo Designs) is constructing it entirely from electric cable spools from Yampa Valley Electric Association’s boneyard. Sustainable. Historical. Downright cool! Next week will be exciting – on Monday (April 25) our 6,000-pound wood-fired oven arrives, as does our Big Ass Fan. Stay tuned for more pictures!

Clean Slate!

Painted ceilings, painted walls, polished floors… add some tanks and a wood-fired oven, and we’re practically good to go! This week, we finished the floors and now we can start adding equipment. Kitchen gear and the big walk-in cooler that will store our tanks of finished beer are on schedule to arrive next week. Delivery of brewing equipment and oven is still a few weeks out. Picking’s crew is kicking butt with the construction!

From the office, our brewer’s notice approval from the federal TTB is confirmed. We see online that the Colorado Department of Revenue also lists Mountain Tap Brewery as having a Recently Approved Colorado Liquor License. All that paperwork will soon be a distant memory.

The Steamboat ski mountain closes this weekend (April 10). It was a great winter, with snow measured in feet more often than inches. The only thing missing was fresh Mountain Tap beer. We’re working on that and will have it fixed by next ski season.

Lots has happened in the last few weeks. More plumbing, more electrical, throw in some mechanical/ HVAC, and the most visible – painting! We’ll be pouring more concrete next week, finishing up painting and more of the rest.

Outside of the construction, we received approval from City Council for our brewpub liquor license (still awaiting news from the state) and we think we received approval from the federal TTB for the right to brew but haven’t been able to locate the approval documents they refer to in their email, so we aren’t marking that one off our list just yet.

Other news: winter returned to Steamboat this week. We all knew it would. The mountain is completely refreshed with several new blankets of snow, and the emerging daffodils and tulips are safely covered again. We still have three full weeks of ski season left! May as well keep the snow coming!

Here comes the cement mixer!

Heading into our second month of construction, and we’re making terrific progress! The few walls that define our open floor plan have been constructed. Underground plumbing work is complete, thanks to Tucker and his staff at TBH. Initial electrical has been accomplished by Don and his crew at Current Electric. Today (March 2) – filling in the trenches! Picking’s crew is pouring concrete as we speak, which is always fun to watch!

Dust is Flying!

We’re in! After many months of anticipation, we’ve taken control of two garage bays at 910 Yampa Street (the former Yampa Valley Electric Association building) and have started construction! We’ve selected and made deposits on our brewing equipment and wood-fired oven. We’ve submitted a forest’s worth of paperwork (happily, most of it electronically) to apply for necessary permits, licenses and the likes. We’re in great hands with General Contractor Andy Picking from Picking Construction leading the charge. And we’ve launched our website with its own STOREFRONT! We’re excited to see the Mountain Tap logo on clothing, hats, stickers and openers. We’re hoping for a mid-summer opening. Stay tuned for the next update… Cheers and beers!
